Are You a Candidate For Liver Failure?


Many people don't fully understand what it is their liver does, therefore they do not understand the danger liver failure poses to their overall health. If you are at risk for liver failure, or feel you may have the symptoms of it, you need to learn the these important basics. Liver failure can come with or after any of the following: 

  • Cirrhosis
  • Fatty liver of pregnancy
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Hepatitis due to drugs

There are also times when a previously healthy person can have signs of failure. Sometimes it happens within eight weeks from the onset of jaundice or the first symptom. When onset is rapid in this way, it is called fulminant liver failure. It's important that you learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of liver failureso you can spot them early and seek treatment if it happens to you. The signs may include:

  • Jaundice
  • Fever
  • Bluish discoloration of the liver
  • Weakness
  • Loss of appetite
  • General failure of health
  • Skin changes
  • Endocrine changes
  • Defective blood clotting

All treatment for liver failure is considered temporary. Liver failure itself is generally considered a temporary condition. When something occurs to cause the liver to fail to work properly, that something has to be corrected so the liver can go back to doing its job.
