Doctor Doubts Study Linking Coffee With Decreased Liver Cancer

Dr Ang Peng Tiam, President, Singapore Society of Oncology, says a recent study that claims drinking two cups of coffee a day will cut the incidence of liver cancer is "too simplistic."

The report says drinking two cups of coffee a day may cut liver cancer by risk by 43 percent.

It's believed coffee contains large amounts of antioxidants which inhibit the formation of liver cancer-causing carcinogens.

But Dr. Tiam, a leading Singapore oncologist believes the study is too simplistic. She says it offers no conclusive evidence.

Dr Ang adds that any link between diet and cancer is highly controversial, and that there's been no real clinical trial to confirm if antioxidants actually reduce liver cancer risk.
