Liver Function
Simply put, human liver functions are critical to human life. Liver function is so important because the
liver performs a multitude of important roles in the body. When normal liver function is
impaired by a liver disease or disorder, it can have a negative ripple effect on a variety of metabolic
processes. Low liver function can trigger long term consequences for your overall health and even be
life-threatening.
Low liver function can be as harmless as mild liver congestion. But liver problems can also be as serious as
liver cancer and liver failure.
Generally, problems with liver functions fall into three main categories:
1. Disease involving the liver cells
2. Problems related to producing or secreting bile
3. Detoxification-related situations
Most people don't realize they have low liver function because the symptoms tend to be vague and could easily be the
result of something else.
For instance, someone who is chronically tired might just brush off their fatigue by saying they're working too
hard or not getting enough sleep. Feelings of lethargy and weariness often signal that normal liver function is
compromised in some way, especially if those tired feelings show up morning after morning.
Other symptoms of abnormal liver function include the following.
-
A bad reaction to certain kinds of drugs or medicines can be a sign of low liver function. Headache
tablets, antibiotics and anti-histamines can cause problems. Drinking alcohol begins to make you feel
inebriated faster than usual. You may experience more intense hangovers that are out of proportion to
the amount of alcohol you've consumed.
