Remedies for an Enlarged Liver or Hepatomegaly


An enlarged liver, also known as hepatomegaly, can be a life-threatening condition. Anyone who has an enlarged liver should seek treatment as soon as possible.


Prevention of an enlarged liver is preferable, of course, to treatment, and there are a number of herbs that are believed to help keep the liver from becoming enlarged.

Chicory juice obtained from the flowers, seeds and roots of chicory. It is thought to be helpful in treatment of several liver problems. but especially an enlarged liver.

Dandelion apparently stimulates the liver to perform its normal functions more efficiently. It can also be used for treatment of an enlarged liver.

Henna is another herb that helps reduce the size of an enlarged liver. 

Indian aloe is used in cases of hepatomegaly. Natural health experts recommend taking an appropriate dose every morning for ten continuous days.

The kantakari herb is made from a spiny tomato plant native to the Indian subcontinent. It is used in the treatment of hepatosplenomegaly, which is the enlargement of both the liver and the spleen. Be careful: it is also reputed to be an aphrodisiac.

The trailing Eclipta plant is a creeper which has great benefits in treating enlarged. Recommended doses is one teaspoon, twice a day. The herb is also helpful in the treatment of hepatosplenomegaly.
